💊 PHARMAC
Price Checker
Look up any subsidised medicine — see what PHARMAC pays, what the pharmacy charges, and what you pay.
Search above to see PHARMAC subsidy and your estimated cost.
🧾 How PHARMAC pricing works
Most subsidised medicines cost you just $5.00 per prescription — that's the standard PHARMAC co-payment, regardless of the drug's actual cost. If the brand your pharmacy stocks costs more than PHARMAC's subsidy, a small surcharge may apply on top of your $5.
🏥 GP Visit

🛡️ ACC
Explained
New Zealand's no-fault accident compensation scheme — what it covers, what it doesn't, and how to make a claim.
🛡️ What is ACC?
ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation) is NZ's government-run no-fault accident insurance. If you're injured — at work, at home, playing sport, or on the road — ACC covers your treatment and can pay weekly compensation if you can't work. There is no need to prove fault or sue anyone.
✅ What ACC covers
❌ What ACC does NOT cover
| Not covered | Reason |
|---|---|
| Illness / disease | ACC covers injuries only |
| Gradual-onset conditions | Unless work-related (e.g. RSI) |
| Standalone mental health | Except when caused by a covered injury |
| Intentional self-injury | Excluded by legislation |
| Injury outside NZ | Overseas accidents are not covered |
📝 How to make a claim
- See your GP, physio, A&E, or hospital — they lodge the claim for you
- ACC mails you a decision (usually within 2 weeks)
- Your health provider bills ACC directly — you pay nothing for covered treatment
- If you can't work, apply for weekly compensation at my.acc.co.nz
💰 Weekly compensation
If your injury stops you working for more than one week, ACC pays 80% of your pre-injury earnings (up to ~$131,000/year cap). There's a one-week stand-down for most claims. Apply through My ACC or ask your GP to initiate the paperwork.
📋 eScripts
& Repeats
How electronic prescriptions work in New Zealand — and how to get repeats without an unnecessary GP visit.
📱 How NZ eScripts work
- Your GP issues the prescription electronically in their practice software
- You get a barcode token by text, email, or printout
- Take the barcode to any participating pharmacy in NZ
- The pharmacist scans it and dispenses your medicine
- Pay the $5 co-payment (or nothing if exempt)
🔁 Repeat prescriptions
Your GP can issue a script with multiple repeats. Each repeat can be dispensed by the pharmacist after the appropriate interval, without a GP visit. Up to 12 months' supply can be authorised at once for stable conditions.
💻 Online prescription renewals
Many NZ GP practices offer online repeat requests for stable, long-term conditions — avoiding an in-person visit. Ask your practice if they offer:
A small admin fee ($5–$20) may apply for non-face-to-face prescription renewals. Check with your practice.
